The 3rd Wenzao European Forum will be held on December 11th !

At the end of 2019, an unexplained pneumonia broke out in Wuhan, China. The epidemic started in China, and spread rapidly from Asia to the rest of the world. In less than two months, on March 11th, the World Health Organization announced that the “Severe Special Infectious Pneumonia/ The coronavirus” (COVID-19) epidemic became a pandemic. The new coronavirus expanded through the world, spreading to more than 100 countries. The number of confirmed cases worldwide has reached 24 million so far, with at least 820,000 deaths. Not only Asia has become the hardest-hit area, but also European and American countries such as the United States, France, Italy and Spain are not spared. The number of confirmed cases is increasing daily, and continues to hit new highs. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, countries have adopted measures such as lockdown policies, border closures, and imposing states of emergency or curfews in order to prevent the spread of the virus. This has become the 21st century’s largest global quarantine operation.

The 3rd Wenzao Forum in 2020 will be titled “COVID-19 pandemic: Political, Economic and Social Crises, Impacts and Challenges in Europe”, which deeply discusses the impacts and effects of COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, especially in the European countries from 2019 to 2020. The morning sessions’ seminar topic will be “The Crisis of COVID-19 in Europe” and “The Action of European Union” which each is conducted by Research Fellow and Deputy Director, Institute of European and American Studies, Academia Sinica, Dr. Der-Chin Horng.

The afternoon sessions will be thesis presentations, thesis presentation by graduate students, and comprehensive discussion. There are five professors who will present their thesis. Graduate students are also given the chances to present their thesis which can be their exchange information platform to help them strengthen their academic research on European and European Union.
The Graduate Institute of European Studies hopes with Taiwanese and foreign scholars, experts and post-graduates in Taiwan to discuss the impact of the epidemic in the international relations, political, economic, social, cultural and environmental aspects. It is expected to enhance the understandings of the situation Europe, the European Union and the rest of the world is facing in 2020, and to deepen the interconnection with foreign and local European academic circles. In the 3rd Wenzao European Forum, there will be a survey about the rapidly changing world under the influence of COVID-19.
Teachers and students who are interested in the European Union and European international affairs are welcomed and invited to join this grand event!
